STRIKE KING Z-TOO in Arkansas Shiner |
|
It’s that time of the year again. The fry are in abundance and the bass are feeding aggressively on the surface, and in the reeds and sticks. I have discovered the ultimate baits for these conditions. The Strike King Z too in Arkansas shiner, this is a soft plastic bait that floats, or with a bigger hook sits just beneath the surface. Fishing weight less you work it back to you the same way you would hard jerk bait and it works in much the same way, except that it is weed less and because the rubber is more durable than most other plastic baits you get more fish for your money ( we are averaging up to 20 fish per bait ) the bait can be cast into reeds and sticks and rarely gets stuck due to the elasticity of the rubber and can be skipped into or under structure easier than most other plastics |
|
As a drop shot bait off shore or off the beach it and all the other colors are excellent baits and out lasts most other soft plastics as well. My best so far is 12 shad on one bait, but I have had customers that have done better than that. And the tiger fish at Jozini just can’t leave them alone. colors are available in watermelon red , blue glimmer , grey glimmer ,ice, Arkansas shiner, baby bass, Smokey shad , pearl and there is also a salt water version known as the Zulu and is available in watermelon chartreuse tail , pumpkin chartreuse belly, blue glimmer, chartreuse silver flake, glow chartreuse tail, hot chartreuse and pearl. |

I prefer the Arkansas shiner to the other colors in z toos because it resembles a bait fish better. And because I have had more success on it than other baits. |

Lionel Crow with 3.5Kg Big Mouth Bass caught on a Strike King Z-Too Weightless Rig |

Myself and a mate spent some time at lake Phobane recently and had the time of our lives, the surface action was amazing and although we never landed a fish bigger than 4 kgs not to say we did not hook any but we could not go wrong with the fish in the 3-4 kg mark. One or two fish where caught on Tango dancers as the bass where fussy about what they where feeding on and most other baits just were not producing. Then I switched to the Z too and all hell broke loose I could simply not go wrong, casting the bait onto the shore and jerking it back to the boat pausing it as we saw a bass approaching and then speeding up as it got closer that seemed to be the pattern for the day and most of fish caught weighed between 2.8 and 3.9 kgs with only about 3 fish the entire day being less than 2kgs.Mike persisted with the tango dancer and was also rewarded with good fish. Both of us would have ended the day had it been a competition with 5 fish bags of 16kgs +. One word of advice you need good strong line when fishing the rip rap at Phobane the bass there are clever and head straight for the rocks and we were broken off on numerous occasions by big fish even with braid. The only line that stood up to that sort of punishment seemed to be flouro carbon particularly the Toray premium plus. If you are planning a trip out there its worth investing in good quality line. |
